Grassfed Beef Bone Broth Recipe

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds of grassfed beef bones. You can use a mix of any combination you'd like, such as canoe, knuckle, marrow, oxtail, rib bones, and any other bones you may have.

  • 1 large onion, quartered

  • 2 medium carrots, cut into 2-inch pieces

  • 3 stalks of celery, cut into 2-inch pieces

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 1/8 cup cider vinegar

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Place bones in a large, shallow roasting pan. Bake bones for 30-45 minutes, or until well browned, turning at the 15-minute mark. Remove from oven.

  2. Transfer bones into a large stockpot. Pour ½ cup of water into the roasting pan and use a wooden spatula to scrape up any browned bits. Add the water and scraped bits mixture into the pot along with onion, carrots, celery, bay leaves, and vinegar. Add enough water to cover the mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer.

  3. Cook at least 4-5 hours, skimming the foam as it occurs. If necessary, add water during the first 2 hours to keep ingredients covered. We recommend simmering the mixture for up to 48 hours if you have the time.

  4. Over a large, heatproof brown, strain broth through a fine-mesh sieve or a colander lined with cheesecloth. Remove bones, vegetables, and seasoning.

  5. Chill broth, then lift off the fat. Store fat in the refrigerator for one month or freeze for up to a year. Store the broth in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for a year.
